We make houses bigger. Nothing else.
EXTRA M² grew out of a building company that did everything for years. At some point it became clear that the projects which ran best, and the clients who were happiest, were all the same kind of project: a family that had run out of room and did not want to move.
So we split that off. Two products: an extension and a roof extension, but complete ones. Bathroom, tiling, plastering, painting, floors, services and joinery all belong to the job and we do them ourselves; what we do not take on is one-off work that is not part of an extension. Everything we learn on one side of the city we can use on the other side the following week, because it is the same kind of problem every time.
That has practical consequences. We know which structural engineer calculates quickly. We know how the planning desks of several councils in our area work and where applications get stuck. We know what a four-metre sliding door costs, what the lead time is and which supplier keeps to it. That is not talent, that is repetition.
What we subcontract, we subcontract to the same people: the same engineer, the same services contractor, the same plasterer. Not because it is the cheapest way, but because at the end you want one company to hold responsible, not five.
The rest of the story is less romantic and more important: turning up on time, covering things over, tidying up at the end of the day, calling when something disappoints instead of hoping it goes unnoticed. That is what people end up recommending us for.
