Extensions and roof extensions in Diemen
Compact plots right up against Amsterdam: more often upwards than backwards.
Diemen has Amsterdam prices and the plots of a post-war expansion town: many houses have a garden of six to eight metres. A four-metre extension then eats more than half of that garden, and it is a trade-off we work through seriously with people here before anything is drawn. Often we land on two and a half or three metres with a roof light, rather than as deep as possible.
For families who genuinely need one more room, the roof extension is therefore the conversation in Diemen. Diemen-Zuid and Diemen-Noord have post-war terraces that lend themselves to it well. In the newer Holland Park development a stricter design code often applies; what is allowed there is usually already set out in the project documents.

What we do in Diemen
More space downstairs.
Uitbouw
An extension does not change one room, it changes the way you use your whole ground floor. The kitchen gets room to breathe, the dining table finally seats everyone, and the garden becomes part of the house.
- Larger living room
- Open-plan kitchen
- Dining space
- Play space
More space upstairs.
Dakopbouw
A roof extension delivers what an extension cannot: bedrooms. A room of their own for the third child, a master bedroom with a bathroom, a study with a door that closes. A whole extra floor, in the place you already live.
- Extra bedroom
- Master bedroom
- Children’s room
- Home office
